Kallaloo has Closed
“Kal Gellein does the cooking, but it's his wife Gail Williams’ Caribbean roots that inspire the menu: homey stews and fragrant curries; pan-fried chicken and spice-rubbed fish; tropical salads and a slew of hearty, vegetarian-friendly side dishes. Giddy with tropical colors, the room is as pretty as a hibiscus blossom and as comfortable as a veranda.”

To all of our wonderful customers,
As many of you know by now, we have decided to close Kallaloo as of January 31, 2011. Our last open day will be Saturday January 29, 2011. Although Kal has been a chef for many years, this was our first restaurant venture. It was a wild and crazy ride and we made many good friends along the way. But after five incredibly busy and hard-working years, it's time for us to get some rest and resume a "normal" family life. Our heartfelt thanks to you, our customers, who made it all worthwhile for us. We really enjoyed introducing you to authentic Caribbean food, food that most of our Caribbean customers recognized as being "just like home". We also are deeply grateful to our staff, especially the ones who have been with us the longest and we hope that you'll stop by to say "hasta la vista" to Juan in the kitchen, Jon in the bar and Danielle, Chris and Mario in the dining room. And where would we have been without our dear friend and fellow chef, Mike Posner, who stepped in to help us on many busy nights? Of course we could not have had such a great time without our music partners and we want to mention the "regulars" here:
Pearl Django
Lary Barilleau
Edouardo Mendonca
Stanley Alleyne
Hilary Harris and friends
Arts in Motion
We also really appreciated the support of our neighbors, Jones BBQ and Verve, and of our vendors, particularly Damon at FSA and BT at Sysco. And many thanks to our friend and graphic arts designer Tom Buffington at SaveAsProductions.
You're on our email list so we will keep you posted on our future plans. Kal will still be available for catering and private chef services. Gail will be busy restoring her long-neglected garden. We'll take a vacation in February! Yippee! Until we meet again, happy new year and peace! We'll miss you all!
